Mercer County Jail Overview
Mercer County Jail is operated by Mercer County Government and is the primary local detention facility for the county. The official jail page identifies the facility at 55 Thompson Road, Mercer, PA 16137, phone 724-662-2700. Warden Mac McDuffie is listed by the county, with Chief Deputy Warden James Scott and Deputy Warden of Security Jim Baker also reached through the jail main number at extension 2530.
The jail holds men and women in pretrial custody, people awaiting hearings or trial, people sentenced by a court of record to local custody, temporary transfers, and people held for various federal, state, police, or Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole reasons. The public roster calls these categories admission types. It is not the same as a charge list, and it is not a statewide prison search.
The official Mercer County Jail page is the source for local facility information, programs, records, visitation, commissary, tablet services, and mail rules.
The county jail page is useful for facility operations, while the separate jail report is the public inmate lookup channel.
Mercer County Jail Population
The county lists a maximum holding capacity of 310 for Mercer County Jail and an average daily population of 201 as of 2024. The jail records department also reports processing more than 4,500 admissions and releases each year. That annual churn explains why the number of people touched by the facility is much higher than a single-day count.
Research inspection of the public male and female population reports on June 26, 2026 found 155 males and 41 females, for a combined public report count of 196. That point-in-time count is different from an annual average. It should not be mixed with the 2024 average daily population without labeling the date and source.
Lookup Mercer County Jail Inmates
Use the Mercer County Jail Report for current county custody. The portal is free and does not require login. It supports a last-name search and report links for the complete alphabetical population, male population, female population, committing authority, and transfer or furlough status. The roster does not show mugshots, bond, charge detail, housing unit, date of birth, or a full booking profile in the inspected public view.
- Open the Mercer County Jail Report and search by last name when a surname is known.
- Use Complete Alphabetical when the spelling may vary or a broad current roster check is needed.
- Use Male Population or Female Population when the person should appear in one sex-specific report.
- Review Commit Date, Admission Type, and Com. Auth. to understand the custody row.
- Call the jail records department if the row is missing, unclear, or tied to another authority.

The report options are part of what makes Mercer County's public roster different from counties that publish full booking cards.
Mercer Jail Record Fields
The public Mercer jail record is best described as a report row. It is useful for current custody, but it is narrow. The table below reflects the inspected public report fields and the key fields not shown online.
| Field | What Mercer Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Full public row name, usually shown in all caps. |
| Commit Date | Date and time the person was committed to jail custody. |
| Admission Type | Local category such as held for trial, sentenced by court, transfer, or other hold. |
| Committing Authority | Agency, court, judicial officer, PSP, PBPP, MCSO, LOCAL, OTHER, or similar value. |

Mercer County Jail Contact
Use the jail main number for current custody, facility routing, and department extensions. The records department is the key local channel for booking and release record questions because the county says that department works directly with the Mercer County court system and other jurisdictions.

Mercer Jail Intake Programs
Booking at Mercer County Jail starts when a person is committed by law enforcement or court order and custody paperwork reaches the facility. The public report's Commit Date is the visible online date and time marker. The jail states that its records department processes admissions and releases and works with Mercer County courts and other jurisdictions, which is important when an inmate has outside holds or pending court action.
The county lists practical facility services that affect people in custody. PrimeCare Medical Inc. provides 24-hour medical services, and the jail says it provides medical, dental, and mental-health care. MAT and MOUD continuation are available for opioid-use disorders. Counseling staff provide classification, individual counseling, and program management seven days a week, and the county lists GED, adult literacy, drug and alcohol counseling, anger management, mental health counseling, life skills, parenting, employment readiness, work release for qualified candidates, and Lexis Nexis law library access.
Mercer Jail Records Access
When the online jail report is not enough, use official records channels. The county Open Records Office lists Roni Shilling as Open Records Officer at 125 S. Diamond St., Suite 103, Mercer, PA 16137, phone 724-662-3800 ext. 2512, email rshilling@mercercountypa.gov. Criminal investigative records may require the District Attorney Right-to-Know route.
State-sentenced inmates are not found in the county jail report after transfer to Pennsylvania Department of Corrections custody. Use the Pennsylvania DOC inmate and parolee locator for sentenced state prisoners, including men at State Correctional Institution Mercer. Federal and immigration custody use the BOP and ICE systems, not the Mercer County Jail Report.
Note: Confirm custody and visit eligibility with Mercer County Jail before sending money, traveling, or relying on a single online report row.
