Mercer County Jail Report Search
The official local source for Mercer County inmate records is the Mercer County Jail Report. It is hosted by Mercer County, costs nothing to use, and does not require an account. The report is narrow by design. It helps confirm whether a person appears in the current jail population, then gives a small set of custody facts. It should not be treated as a complete arrest file, a charging document, or a statewide criminal history report.
The roster fits the Mercer County Jail population, which includes people held for hearings or trial, people serving local court sentences, temporary transfers, and holds tied to federal, state, police, parole, or other authority. State Correctional Institution Mercer is different. SCI Mercer is a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections prison for state-sentenced men, so its inmates are searched through the state DOC locator, not the county jail report.
The county Jail Report landing page shows the search box and the preset reports used for current Mercer County jail records.
Use the Mercer County Roster
A Mercer County jail roster search starts with the last name field. If the surname is uncommon, an exact spelling may be enough. If the name is common, the preset reports can help narrow the list by sex, alphabetic order, committing authority, or transfer and furlough status. The county does not publish wildcard rules, a refresh interval, or a minimum character count, so spelling variants are worth trying before assuming the person is not in jail.
- Open the Mercer County Jail Report and search by the person's last name when the surname is known.
- Use the Complete Alphabetical Report when the spelling is uncertain or no first result appears.
- Check the Male Population or Female Population report if sex is known and the current count is part of the question.
- Use the Transfer / Furloughs Report when the person may be temporarily moved or not housed in the main population.
- Review the Committing Authority Report to see whether the row is tied to local police, PSP, PBPP, MCSO, a court authority, or another source.
- If no row appears, call the jail records line or move to the DOC, BOP, ICE, VINE, or open-records channels based on the custody stage.
The Complete Alphabetical Report is the broadest public view because it lists the current population in table form.
Mercer County Roster Fields
The Mercer County inmate records search is simple. It has one direct name field and a group of report links. The report links work more like separate public tables than filters. That matters because a reader looking for charges, bond, or a housing unit will not find those details by opening a richer profile. No clickable inmate detail page was found in the public view inspected for the research file.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | Labeled "Search By Last Name Of Inmate." The county posts no wildcard or minimum character rule. |
| Report Options | Links | Optional | Committing Authority, Complete Alphabetical, Male Population, Female Population, and Transfer / Furloughs. |
| Search button | Button | N/A | The button submits the last-name search from the report page. |
For very recent arrests, a missing row can mean the person is still being processed by a police department, has already been released, was booked under a different spelling, is being held in another county, or is under a state, federal, or immigration process instead of local jail custody.
What Mercer County Records Show
A public Mercer County inmate record is best read as a jail report row. It is not a full booking card. The row can help confirm custody and the basic reason category for detention, but it does not expose the charge sheet, bond terms, booking number, mugshot, housing unit, date of birth, physical description, court date, or release date. For charge detail after an arrest, use Mercer County court records after jail arrest through the court system.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Last name and first name in all caps on the public row. |
| Commit Date | The date and time the person was committed into jail custody. |
| Admission Type | A local category such as held for trial, held for various federal/state/police reasons, sentenced by a court of record, temporary transfer, or other. |
| Com. Auth. | The committing authority abbreviation or name, such as PSP, PBPP, MCSO, LOCAL, OTHER, or a court-related name. |
| Mugshot | Not shown in the inspected public roster view. |
| Charges and Bond | Not shown as offense, statute, count, bail, or bond fields in the county jail report. |
Important: The jail report can confirm a current custody row, but it should not be used as a criminal-history check or a complete court record.
Mercer County Booking Flow
Mercer County does not publish a full intake manual, but the jail page gives useful local facts. After arrest or court commitment, a person may be brought to the Mercer County Jail by local police, Pennsylvania State Police, the Sheriff's Office, or another authority. Jail records staff process admissions and releases and work with Mercer County courts and outside jurisdictions. The public report uses "Commit Date" as the visible marker for the time a person entered jail custody.
Intake can include identity checks, commitment paperwork, property handling, security screening, medical or mental-health screening, and classification. Mercer County Jail lists 24-hour medical care through PrimeCare Medical Inc., mental-health care, medication-assisted treatment or medication for opioid-use disorder, and classification through counseling staff. Those details explain why a new arrest may not be visible online at once. The public roster should not be described as real time because the county does not post a refresh schedule.
- Commit date
- The date and time shown on the public row when jail custody began.
- Admission type
- The local custody category that explains why the person is held.
- Detainer
- A hold from another agency that may keep a person in custody even if a local bond issue is resolved.
- PBPP
- A parole-board-related authority that may appear in Mercer County jail records.
County, State, Federal Searches
The right lookup turns on the custody system. The Mercer County Jail Report covers current local jail custody at the county jail. The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Inmate and Parolee Locator covers state-sentenced inmates and parolees, including people who move from county jail into DOC custody after sentencing. The DOC service is updated daily and does not include county-facility inmates.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail custody | Mercer County Jail Report | Local pretrial, hearing, short-sentence, transfer, and other-authority jail rows. |
| State-sentenced inmate or parolee | Pennsylvania DOC locator | SCI Mercer and other DOC prisons are not searched through the county roster. |
| Federal sentenced custody | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present are searched in the national BOP system. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | Search by A-number or name, country of birth, and birth date where applicable. |
| Custody notifications | Pennsylvania VINE | VINE is for custody status and notification, not a replacement for the roster. |
No official Mercer County Sheriff's Office roster app was found in the research. The jail page references the GettingOut mobile app for tablet deposits, but that app is not a public inmate search tool.
Mercer County Jail Facilities
Mercer County has one primary local jail and one state prison that often comes up in inmate-record searches. The two facilities are close in name and both are in Mercer, Pennsylvania, but they serve different custody systems. County jail records, visits, mail, commissary, and local custody questions route through Mercer County Jail. Sheriff Tim Callahan's office is a separate county law-enforcement office, while state-sentenced prison custody routes through the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and SCI Mercer.

Mercer County Records Requests
When the public roster is not enough, the first practical contact for jail custody questions is the Mercer County Jail Records Department at 724-662-2700 ext. 2335. That line is the best local route when an online row looks stale, a name is missing, or a caller needs to ask how a booking record can be requested. The booking and visitation extension, 2532, is useful for scheduled visit questions, but it is not the main records line.
Formal public-record requests go through the Mercer County Open Records Office. The county lists Roni Shilling as Open Records Officer at 125 S. Diamond St., Suite 103, Mercer, PA 16137, 724-662-3800 ext. 2512, and rshilling@mercercountypa.gov. Criminal investigative records and District Attorney Right-to-Know issues may route to District Attorney Peter C. Acker as appeals officer. Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law access still works alongside CHRIA and court rules, so some jail, police, or criminal history data may be limited or reviewed before release.
Note: Ask for the record type, date range, full name, and agency involved. Vague requests are harder to route.
Mercer County Jail Visitation
Mercer County Jail visits require pre-approval and placement on the inmate's visitation list. Visitors need current valid photo identification. The jail does not allow cell phones, lighters, tobacco products, or recording devices in the facility, and contraband can lead to refusal or removal. Visits must be scheduled with the Booking Department after 7:00 p.m. the day before the visit and no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of the visit.

Mail, Money, and Tablets
Mail for Mercer County Jail must go through the published mail-processing address and include the incarcerated person's name and booking number. The example format from the county is Mercer County Jail, inmate name with BN number, PO Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. Because the public jail report does not show a booking number, confirm the number with the jail before mailing if it is not already known.
Commissary deposits can be made through the jail lobby kiosk or ConnectNetwork/ViaPath. Tablet funds use GettingOut by website, app, or phone. Cash kiosk deposits can be made during a scheduled visit or during the county's published deposit window, and credit card deposits may take several business days according to the jail page. For booking photos specifically, see the Mercer County jail mugshots page because the public jail report does not display them in the inspected roster view.
